The one real plus was the air conditioning, which helped in Naples' humid climate. Otherwise, this apartment on Via Sant'Agostino alla Zecca was a very poor experience. I booked through Booking.com, but the listing didn't reflect what I found: its photos showed a different, much less impoverished neighborhood, and the stated amenities included a bidet, though there wasn't one. The building sits in a worn-down courtyard with some people who seemed rather shady. The entrance door looked like it could be kicked open. Inside, the bathroom was tiny, the toilet needed repeated flushing, and plaster was coming off the ceiling. There was ice and food residue in the freezer; the pillows were dirty, yellow-stained, and had hair on them. The kitchen also lacked basics like oven mitts and dishcloths. I contacted the manager right away. After I spent a night using rolled-up towels in place of pillows, they replaced them and defrosted the freezer. They came in with a set of keys, and instead of leaving the pillows on the sofa by the entrance, went into the bedroom and even opened the closet. Before arriving, I had asked whether there was a hairdryer and an iron. The hairdryer shut off after two minutes, and the iron left stains on my clothes. At around 50 euros per night, plus tourist tax paid locally in cash, the value was terrible and the price was unacceptable for this place.
