I only wish we hadn't had to leave. Gli Scipioni has three separate suites, all roomy and comfortable, each with its own bathroom and shower. There's a shared kitchen that's kept stocked with breakfast and snacks and is open to guests any time. The Metro is a block away, and the Vatican is about a five-minute walk from the front door. A great choice if you want a more local-feeling place to stay in Rome.

Tripadvisor's information about this property is inaccurate, and the provider's description didn't match what we found. This isn't a hotel or an apartment, but an uncomfortable room among three small rooms in a very old building. To reach it, we had to pass through five doors and use a very old, tiny elevator meant for three people. The shower was just 2.5 by 2 feet, so you had to turn around to shower. The location is near the Vatican, but far from the other places of interest. Across our June 2018 trip through five European countries, this was the only really bad place. Don't ruin your trip here. There are plenty of hotels in Rome, especially from recognized brands.

The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the service was great. We chose this place for a Vatican visit, but it would also make a good base for a wider Rome trip. It cost much less than most central Rome hotels, without feeling like anything was lacking.

The place was clean, and Mr. Mario was friendly and very helpful. It's close to the Metro and within walking distance of Vatican City. The neighborhood also has plenty of places to eat and shops selling clothes and souvenirs.
