The apartment’s condition made me leave after checking in, and I lost a lot of time and part of my trip dealing with it. I had booked three nights at arancio apt 13, but the floors were visibly dirty, with shoe prints and hairs, so I immediately asked for a mop. After a long travel day, the shower smelled of mold and was covered in black mold. I’d booked specifically because there was a washer, but using it made the whole apartment lose electricity. I spent an hour on WhatsApp and missed a dinner reservation I’d made a month earlier. They sent me up and down five flights of stairs trying to fix the power, and eventually we figured it out ourselves. In the morning, the old espresso maker and hot plate were dirty. When I cleaned up spilled coffee grounds, I found long hairs and dirt everywhere, as if the place had never been cleaned. The power went out again. When the property manager came, I showed them the mold, dirt, and the washer outlet sitting in a pool of water, which seemed like a safety hazard. The manager saw the mess and apologized without questioning why I was leaving. Finding somewhere else at the last minute took more hours out of my trip, and I lost my day trip to Tivoli. I had to repack, haul my suitcases down the tiny spiral staircase, and take them back through the cobblestone streets. A cleaner showed up while the property manager was discussing how to clean the place. Why should I have to deal with this? It should all have been done before I arrived. Rome As You Like seemed to understand why I was leaving because the apartment was dirty and the electricity faulty. They said they were happy to refund the tourist tax, but now they won’t refund the two nights I didn’t stay. I’m spending the rest of my Rome vacation documenting the problem with booking.com, and I’ll have to call my credit card company. It’s a huge pain. I thought having someone there in person to see the issues would make a refund easy to get. I almost never complain, and I worked in service for over a decade, but this is a terrible company. I’ve never seen a worse vacation rental. No one should spend a vacation troubleshooting breakers and cleaning a dirty place after paying for cleaning, or be exposed to black mold in an expensive holiday rental. I’m not exaggerating or lying: this place sucks, and I’ll drag them across every platform if I need to. If they reply here, don’t trust their gaslighting bullshit. They’re horrible in every way. If you’re looking for a rental, look literally anywhere else.
