Sergio House

Sergio was friendly, and the location is really good. But once the city tax and the extra AC fee were added, it didn't feel as affordable as the starting price suggested. The room had only the basics. The shower temperature kept acting up, and one of the cabinet doors wouldn't shut properly.

The host was pleasant, and check-in went smoothly after I let them know when I'd arrive. The garden setting kept street noise away, and the main Rome train station was about a five-minute walk, with other sights nearby. There was a queen bed, mini-fridge, flat-screen TV with lots of channels, private bathroom, and access to a kitchen with an espresso machine, large fridge, kettle, dishes and cutlery. No microwave, and the AC cost extra. My only gripes were the very narrow elevator and noisy late-night arrivals.

The location worked really well for getting around Rome, especially with Roma termini station close by, and the place was clean. The staff member we met was nice, too. We'd paid for a double bed, but it was two single mattresses on one double frame. They kept sliding apart, and I woke up between them more than once. After walking around all day, we wanted a proper rest. We stayed three days, but got no fresh towels or more toilet paper, and there wasn't staff around to ask. Not great.

The price looked affordable, but extra costs added up. AC was 5€ per night, and since there was no fan and we couldn't open the window, using it seemed unavoidable in summer. Leaving bags before or after checkout cost 5€ an hour. There was no breakfast, towels, or extra toilet paper, and the WIFI didn't work for any room on our floor. By the end, it didn't seem that cheap for Rome. On checkout day, which was at 10am, the owner knocked at 8:45 and came straight in with his keys while we were asleep. We told him we'd be out by 10 and he left, but at 9:30 he was pounding on the door to ask when we were leaving. I don't understand the rush. We heard him do the same to another room the day before. We left before 10, and there had never been a problem about checkout. We booked through Booking, but couldn't post a review because after we left, the owner cancelled the booking and claimed we hadn't stayed. That's clearly untrue, since we have text messages with him. I think he did it to avoid a bad review, and maybe to avoid declaring the cash he charged us. I wouldn't stay here. No working WIFI and no included AC weren't worth the hassle. I also believe the booking was cancelled intentionally so we couldn't share what happened.
