Villa EUR - Parco dei Pini

The hotel has no air conditioning, and the room never got below 26 degrees. The front desk women were very rude and insisted this was a normal temperature for an Italian hotel. They wouldn't even offer a refund. Temperatures like this are illegal in many countries.

The peaceful setting is a real plus, with birdsong, mature trees, and a green hillside around a building that reminded me of a Florentine villa. The hotel and rooms were kept sparkling clean, and although it has a three-star rating and compact rooms, the staff gave five-star service and really went out of their way to meet my needs. Breakfast was excellent, with plenty to choose from: Italian cold cuts, breads, bacon, scrambled eggs, and handmade coffees. For a few euros extra, they’ll make traditional crispy bacon and eggs to order. The restaurant also serves lunch and dinner from a good à la carte menu, with a solid wine list. The restaurant staff were friendly, cheerful, helpful, and efficient, which made a nice start to the day. I thought the value was excellent. Checkout is usually at 11:00, but I needed to stay until 18:00 for a late flight. They arranged it quickly for a very reasonable 49 euros. Breakfast can be included in the room price. I’ll stay here again on my next trip to Rome.

We were impressed by how much we got for such a low price. The included breakfast was very good, and the check-in staff were extremely friendly. The building looks as if it may once have been a large school converted into a hotel, but our room was spacious and really comfortable. We were very pleased with the value.

This place feels like a trap for anyone expecting a decent three-star hotel. Maybe it was that way in 1973, but 50 years later it seems to be falling apart. The rooms have a prison feel, the bathroom could be straight from an asylum, and the appliances look like they’re from the 70s. There’s no sound insulation at all. I’d avoid it.
