The rooftop view is incredible, though the terrace feels neglected. We found it by wandering up ourselves, since nobody mentioned it at check-in. The approach was cluttered with rubbish, old boards and spare chairs, and up top there were only ordinary chairs, no bar service or tables for drinks, with threads hanging from the wooden frame. Our room was huge and lovely, with beautiful flooring, a Murano glass chandelier, marble bathroom and a comfortable large bed with excellent linens. The bathroom is a little dated, but that suits the palace. The TV was tiny and sounded poor, though it didn't spoil the room. The air conditioning was quiet, easy to adjust and worked well. Outside noise came and went, but the windows and double shutters shut it out. Being right on the canal was wonderful, especially arriving and leaving by water taxi at the door. Breakfast was enjoyable thanks to Giuseppe and a woman whose name I missed. Giuseppe is a cheeky, fun presence, and the coffee was fine with refills readily offered. Eating outside costs €10 per table, which I understand, though it felt odd. Reception was less impressive: we were welcomed warmly, but got no overview of facilities and no offer to help with bags. A younger receptionist often looked unhappy to be there and was on FaceTime a couple of times, which felt out of place. Evening drinks were inconsistent with reception usually covering the bar alone. One day my soft drink came without ice, another day I got a Spritz and crisps, then the crisps were forgotten the next day. Wi-Fi was poor, perhaps because of Venice generally. It’s a beautiful hotel with a spectacular setting and plenty of charm. More attention to service and details would help it live up to its potential.

The rooftop terrace has a GREAT VIEW of Venice, and the hotel has plenty of Venetian character, with decorative rooms and halls, Grand Canal views from the lobby and dining area, and a varied breakfast with generally good service. I stayed on Feb 18th, 2026, and had two upsetting incidents. A housekeeper entered my room without knocking, hours before checkout. I reported it to reception because it felt very unprofessional. At breakfast I tried to sit at a window table facing the Grand Canal. A waitress, a woman in her late 40s, told me, “breakfast over!” even though the dining room was due to stay open for at least another 30 minutes. I went to take a few quick photos, planning to ask the front desk about the hours afterward. When I came back, other guests were sitting at those tables, and she was asking what they wanted to drink. I was bewildered and couldn't help wondering if she had kept me from sitting there because of my ethnicity. It was extremely upsetting.

The room was nice, though heating was limited in winter. Breakfast was good, and the location is convenient, close to the Vaporetto and beside the ferry boat.

The hotel was immaculate, and our balcony room was spacious with a great view. It's in a great spot near some fabulous restaurants, and breakfast was superb.

The location is the only thing this terrible hotel has going for it. It calls itself 4*, but I’d struggle to give it 2*. Our first room was a mess: the shower barely worked, the carpet was patchy, the window mechanism was broken and the air conditioning was useless. After we complained, we got a better room with a good shower, working air conditioning and a comfortable bed. There was no real minibar, just one miniature bottle of Jack Daniels and not even water. The bar was closed, despite there being one, and over our three nights the work going on there never seemed to move forward. The roof terrace was dirty, had no shade or service, and felt like an empty, soulless space. Breakfast was very disappointing too. Reception was often unmanned, and when someone was there, the service could be rude and dismissive. Our credit card company is now taking this forward because what we received was definitely not what the hotel presents itself as.
