The Museum of Fabric and Costumes now occupies the original palazzo within the Palazzo Mocenigo complex. Its exhibits cover Venice’s fashion and textile history, and give visitors a look at Venetian life through the years. The building itself, Palazzo Mocenigo Casa Nuova, stands in the lively San Polo district. It dates to the 17th century and combines Renaissance and Baroque features in its architecture. It was part of the legacy of the powerful Mocenigo family, and over the centuries the palace complex served as a private home and a seat of Venetian nobility. The family palaces also have a place in the city’s history, having been home to some of Venice’s most important figures.

I’m attaching a photo of the entrance at the location shown above. But if you’re looking for the entrance to the Palazzo Mocenigo Museum, this isn’t the right spot. At the pin on the map there’s a building for the Republic of Iran. Google Maps sends you instead to two hotels by a vapporetto stop, about a quarter mile away. I would’ve liked to visit the Palazzo.

The museum’s website and its reviews have been added to this place by mistake. Don’t come here for the museum, go to SANTA CROCE 1992 near the Rialto market instead.

The canal bends here, and then the view opens up. Buildings rise along the water, and the scenery is incredible.
