Yagyu no Sho

It’s a peaceful, beautiful place, though getting there takes quite a hike. We really enjoyed the stay. After all the walking Japan involves, it was lovely to spend a day soaking, playing board games with friends, and enjoying the natural surroundings. I must have taken 200 photos because everything looked so good. The staff helped us learn to do some things, at least partly, the traditional way. They speak very little English, so have a translator app and some patience, but they’ll absolutely look after you. When you arrive, they’ll put you in a robe and serve tea, so don’t expect to shower straight away. Be ready for tea. I’m a picky eater, but I enjoyed most of the adventurous food. Meals take a while because each course comes separately, so expect to sit at the table for quite some time.

This inn was the highlight of our Japan trip. The calm atmosphere, tasteful room, open-air bath, garden view, food, and hospitality all made it easy to relax and take in the beauty around us. Everyone on staff was lovely. I especially want to thank our Nakai-san, Mina, who took such good care of us and made us feel at home. It was a marvelous stay, and we’ll be back.

Everyone was kind and helpful, and they even accommodated our family traveling with a 16-month-old. The in-room breakfasts and dinners were spectacular, and we loved having a private outdoor bath. The building was quiet and close to everything, with a bar upstairs that we tried one evening. A perfect base for exploring Shuzenji and the surrounding area. I’d definitely recommend it.

My wife and I had an incredible honeymoon stay. We left feeling completely relaxed after a great night’s sleep and a few soaks in the room’s Onsen. The food, service, and setting were all amazing, and the in-room bath was a special touch. I’d recommend it to anyone visiting Japan.
