The garden is apparently 500 years old, and sitting among it and the tatami mats makes this place a rare, pleasant adventure. My mother and I like staying here because it's the only traditional hotel in Kurume within our price range. Other hotels are Western-style and really cramped, like sleeping in a toilet. The showers worked and there are Western-style toilets. You might see a spider, which seems to be what other Japanese reviewers are freaking out about, so bring some insecticide.
