We chose this place because Kyoto hotels were so expensive in peak season, and it turned out to be a great call. The rate was about half what we would have paid in central Kyoto, breakfast included. Minami-Kusatsu station’s west exit is only 300 meters away, in a quiet neighborhood, with direct connections to Kyoto and Osaka stations. There are plenty of convenience stores, parking lots, a 24-hour supermarket and drugstore, plus bicycle rentals nearby. The room was a clean, basic Japanese hotel room with a big window. Breakfast was a daily buffet with two kinds of rice, three soups, bread, salads, two protein dishes, and lots of sides. Check-in and checkout are automated, but staff are around to help. There’s luggage storage and a coin laundry too. I’d stay at Toyoko Inn again.

A handy choice for a late-night arrival, with a frequent free shuttle and a room close to the airport. Breakfast is decent and free, and the welcome was friendly. The room felt too small for a restful night, and it’s a bit far from the food street. Still, I’d consider it again if arriving late.

I enjoyed the area as much as the hotel. The station, shopping centers, and a grocery store are all a short walk away. There were five of us staying in late September for one night, and I was really glad to have a room to myself. It was a good size, the bed was comfortable, and the staff were friendly and helpful. I also liked the amenities by the front desk, and breakfast was good.

The rooms are a reasonable size and have good equipment, and the hotel itself is good. My reason for taking off a star is breakfast: by 8 a.m. the bread was all gone, and they didn’t replenish it or seem to learn from the previous days and order more.

As I’ve come to expect from Toyoko Inn, the hotel was clean, comfortable, and conveniently located. Good value for the money.
