Sauna & Capsule AMZA (mens only)

The location is great and the staff are very friendly. But after staying a few nights, I found bed bug marks on my last night, which obviously came from here. They offered to dry my things, but wouldn’t give any kind of refund, even though drying my items ruined my day.

The onsen and sauna are good, but they’re only available to men. The women’s room costs more, and what they call the women’s lounge is really just the reception. This place seems good if you’re a man.

The aka suri was reasonably priced. I’d definitely recommend it.

We booked two capsules through Booking two weeks ahead, but were turned away when we arrived after a long day at Universal Studios. There was a sign saying no tattoos, and we first assumed it applied only to the onsen and spa. It turned out tattoos meant we couldn’t enter the hotel at all. The hotel page on Booking didn’t mention a no-body-tattoo rule. I understand there are cultural differences around tattoos in Japan, but with nothing stated there, the surprise refusal left us scrambling for somewhere to sleep and soured the evening. Fortunately, we found Kamon Hotel, which was honestly nicer, cheaper, and didn’t discriminate against people with tattoos.
