Isamu was a really friendly host and speaks English very well. He helped me plan the rest of my trip in Japan and gave me useful tips. The hostel is close to the train station and main attractions, including the big Buddha. Everything indoors was very clean, the bed was comfortable, and the shower was warm and clean. There’s free tea and coffee, plus a laundry machine and kitchen guests can use. You can tell the host puts effort into making the stay a good one. One of the best hostels I’ve stayed in, and I’d definitely come back on another trip to Japan.

I ended up in Takaoka by chance because the bus to Kanazawa was fully booked. If I’d known more about the area, I would have planned a longer stay. It’s a nice choice if you want to visit somewhere less touristy. The owner, Isamu, is very kind and has great recommendations, so definitely ask him. The hostel is clean, with a comfortable, roomy communal space. I enjoyed staying here and would come back for at least two nights instead of one. For a day out, I recommend the himi line, a beautiful old train that follows the coast all the way to himi. Himi is a cute fishing town with cartoon statues and a fish market.

The owner, Isamu, was friendly, and I enjoyed chatting with him about Takaoka in different seasons. The place feels spacious and cozy, and it’s clean and tidy. This is one of the best designed dormitory-style accommodations I’ve stayed in, and I really appreciated the care and thought the owner put into the house. I’d love to visit again if I return to Takaoka.

The location is nicely balanced, close to the station, historical sights, and good restaurants around town. The communal kitchen is open, well stocked, and well equipped, and it’s a fun place to hang out while cooking. The owner is kind and very willing to help guests enjoy their stay with planning help and advice. The dorm setup is great, and the big collection of travel and other books gives the place a nice feel. Informal, but spotless and cozy.

Everything was clean and comfortable, and the bed was soft after a long day of travel. It’s one of the better hostels I’ve visited. I just wish there were more than one shower.
