Shodoshima Kokusai Hotel

There’s plenty of space to wander around the hotel, and our room was spacious too. Its location is convenient for both sunrise and sunset, and Angel path is close by. The Kaiseki dinner was delicious and served in a huge portion, though there was a bit too much variety of fish for my taste.

We stayed two nights during my school mid-term break in a room on the 6th floor with its own private onsen. The room was great, with complimentary snacks and a nice view of Angel road, the tourist attraction.

Angel Road (Angel Road) is right nearby, and the seaport is close too. Those were the highlights of our three-night family stay. The hotel feels quite outdated, though, and we had the same breakfast buffet each morning, which got repetitive. The ceiling in the public onsen looked dirty, and we noticed other areas around the property that weren’t clean. It needs refurbishment and better upkeep.

The view is amazing and the location is great, but I wouldn’t return without a major renovation. Some parts are nicely updated: the lobby is great, the 2nd floor restaurant was clean and well kept, and the outdoor hot tub in our room was VERY nice and seemed recently renovated. Our room was okay, but worn, with scratched furniture and wear around the door handles. The sixth-floor hallway carpet looked old and dirty, and the smell hit us as soon as the elevator opened. The passage to the gallery was dark, with no lights, and dank. I understand a full renovation to the standard this place deserves could cost hundreds of millions of yen, but they could at least replace that very old carpet. Breakfast wasn’t very good, while the dinner included with our dining option was very good. Staff and service were excellent. I can live with outdated, worn areas, but the dirt and bad smells bother me. This great spot needs a complete rebuild.
