Grand Cave Motomachi

The facilities felt disappointing for what we paid, especially since the price wasn't particularly low. The room was far smaller than the photos suggested. Four of us stayed, but there was only one TV on one side of the top bunk, so it couldn't be watched from below. There was no shared place to gather and relax, just the room. Getting in was stressful too: first I had to get a number through a QR code to enter the lobby, then another before going into the room. A video call was also required, and the staff member on it seemed very casual and relaxed. I found several unfamiliar hairs in the shower, which made me doubt the cleaning, and there was no conditioner, so I had to buy some at the convenience store downstairs. With the bunk beds, the top was hot when the air conditioner was on and the bottom was cold. The thin windows let in almost all the traffic noise. I could list more faults, but might have overlooked them at a lower price.

I saw several young tourists from mainland China hanging around by the entrance. They didn't look like they had much money. Considering the location, I wondered if staying there would be expensive. I live about a ten-minute walk away, so I don't think I'll stay there myself. I checked the price, and it is quite expensive.

The location is great, and the room was clean, comfortable, and had plenty of amenities. Check-in is self-service, but you can call customer service in the lobby with questions. Their English is excellent, and they can help sort out problems. There isn't an elevator, though it's only on the second floor. Good value, and I'll definitely come back.

It's a quiet place at night. It's near the south exit of JR Ishikawa subway station, with a convenience store and drugstore next door. Head north on foot to reach Chinatown and a McDonald's.
