HOTEL GRASSINO URBAN RESORT SHINYOKOHAMA - Adult Only

I booked a mid-range room expecting the resort-like feel this hotel is known for around Shin-Yokohama, so the stay was disappointing. When I filled the tub, the water looked dirty, maybe from rust or a grimy blower. That odd color put me off taking a bath. While I waited, I tried to play a video through Chromecast, but the remote wouldn't respond at all, perhaps because it was broken or out of battery. I'll think twice before staying here again.

This was my first stay, and because it's part of the Grassino chain, I felt reassured. There were some signs of age, but it was cleaned well and I felt safe. Now this is my fourth visit. The service is good, but the room is usually dark. The areas you can see look clean, while other spots have quite a bit of dust. My phone charging cable didn't work, and the unlocked doors covering routers, hubs, and other electronics in each room make me seriously concerned about eavesdropping or voyeurism. When I reserve, I'm often given a room with broken equipment, so I don't see much benefit to booking ahead. It would be nice to choose a room during the reservation. If I got one in good condition, I might reconsider coming back.

I've stayed here twice on my most recent trip to Japan, and I'd happily return. My Japanese isn't very good, so I needed a lot of explanations and repeated confirmations. The front desk staff stayed kind and patient the whole time, answering politely without complaining. Check-in and checkout were easy, and the rooms were very clean.

After several years of staying here for the good service, I'm done. They told us we had a five-hour break, with the clock starting when we entered the room. We checked in at X:29 and left five hours later at Y:31. One elevator was out, and only one was running. We gave it up to a guest on the 10th floor who had called first, then went to the front desk at Y:34. They say there's no extra fee if you're within five minutes, but somehow charged us 700 yen for being six minutes over. Even after I explained, they just said the computer handles it. We should have left more time, sure, but the hotel always has one elevator broken and hasn't fixed it. We couldn't get on, since at a love hotel you can't ride the same elevator as other guests, right? Charging us another 700 yen for that doesn't feel fair. We've put up with plenty before: clogged drains, an unchanged questionnaire form, rooms not cleaned properly, weird slimy bugs in the bathroom, and the front desk nearly losing our key. That time we waited five minutes and got into the room late, with no refund for the delay. Now we paid an extra 700 yen for giving up the elevator, lol. Maybe the hotel thinks I'm a broke customer who can only afford a gruff Grassino for 700 yen, but I don't have to stay somewhere like that. I'll use up the member points I worked so hard to collect, then go somewhere else. I have money.
