The neighborhood felt safe and was great, with lots of restaurants and cafes and a big, reasonably priced Jmart just a five-minute walk away. Further along on foot is the large HuaKhua Market. Getting downtown generally means taking a motorcycle or taxi, though public bus No. 20 is an option, with a bit of a walk to its stop at That Luang! lol. I came planning to stay less than a month, but kept extending and ended up there for almost three months, booked through Booking.com. It was a fantastic stay. The building and some facilities are a little dated, but well maintained. My room was comfortable, cleaned weekly, and the sheets and bath towels were replaced each time. The staff and their family were kind, friendly and flexible, which helped with things like weekly payments. The kitchen was roomy and fully equipped, and it was quiet with no motorcycle noise since it's one street back from the main road. Every window had a mosquito screen, so I could leave them open without worrying about bugs. The washing machine is shared. There were both many short-term foreign guests and many Laotian residents. Wi-Fi was stable, though it sometimes dropped in heavy rain or bad weather. I'd recommend it if you want to experience local life in Vientiane and take things at a leisurely pace.
