Sakura Hill Kandy 71

The final bill left me feeling overcharged, which is why I’m giving this place 2 stars. The host added a 10% charge to accommodation, food and drinks without mentioning it beforehand. I only saw it on the bill at checkout. They also served me a welcome tea before check-in, then charged 650 LKR plus another 10% for it. I’d never had this happen before. There were positives: clean sheets and towels, a spacious room and a balcony. The location is good, about 15 minutes’ walk from the city center and bus station, though it’s on a steep hill. The place was a bit smelly and quite run down, but at this price I didn’t expect more, so that was fine with me. Mornings were noisy from 7 am, with a construction site next door, cars on the street, music from neighbors and dogs. They didn’t provide toilet paper.

The hosts were kind, and the welcome drink was wonderful. The room was a little damp, but okay. The place is uphill, so you have to walk up from the bus terminal.
