Mostafa and Yassin were incredibly helpful during our stay of more than five nights with my wife. They guided us through the narrow streets of the Rcif, suggested places to go out, and even did our laundry and gave us a free late checkout, extras they don’t generally offer the public. Honestly, the treatment was the best you could hope for. Construction in the area was the one downside. Without it, we’d have been in a great central spot without needing to go through the narrow streets. The good thing is the construction is due to be over by the end of the month.

My grandfather, chrif Sidi Mohamed IBN MAJDOUB HASSANI, owned this Riad and lived there with his wife, chrifa Lalla Fatma FILALI, and their 10 children. My dad was the oldest. My grandfather passed away in the late nineties, and the Riad was then sold to M Benmoussa, who turned it into a hotel.

The food was better than anywhere else we ate in Morocco during our four-day stay, so I’m giving two stars generously. Still, the prices at Bab Rcif were really high by Moroccan standards, even more than we would have paid in Spain. A lamb dish costing over €30 felt a bit over the top, and it wasn’t available anyway. It was our first evening in Morocco and our only night in Fez. The manager of our riad brought us to this restaurant because our riad had no restaurant of its own. We didn’t stay at Bab Rcif. It seems they all cooperate with each other.

The food was really delicious, and the massage and hamam were so relaxing. All good, thank you Mohammed for your hospitality.

The worst part was what happened when we asked to have the leftovers packed up. The waiter said that was no problem, took our food to the kitchen, and brought the bill. Only after taking the payment and tip did he come back and tell us the food had been eaten, then ask if that was okay. He was pleasant, and I think he was trying to help by offering a bread snack, which was a kind gesture but nowhere near enough to make up for both our meals being eaten. Our tour guide brought us for lunch and didn’t really leave until we were with a waiter. The prices were about three times higher than at nearby places serving equally good food. The food was alright and portions were big enough that we only ate about half. I’d avoid this place until they review their business model. It seemed like many tour guides brought people here first, since we saw a few groups arrive while we were there. Find somewhere else.
