The hotel has a lot going for it: an excellent location, a characterful building, and rooms and facilities with real potential. The bathtub, though, hadn't been cleaned properly and felt rough and dirty, and walking across the poorly maintained kitchen floor turned my white socks black. The biggest issue was the rigid, top-down service culture. Mistakes can happen, but dealing with even a basic problem became exhausting. I was first given a room that looked nothing like the one advertised. When I showed the booking platform photos, the front desk said they “did not know anything about those photos” instead of taking responsibility. It took over an hour of negotiating to get a room change and a refund for the downgrade, and I got different answers from different managers. The refund was only confirmed after I spoke with a senior manager. The property has excellent location and solid facilities, but service, communication, housekeeping, and problem resolution were consistently disappointing. Until management improves staff training, accountability, and housekeeping, the guest experience won't live up to the hotel's potential.

The hotel is conveniently located, so it was easy to get around Ulaanbaatar. I stayed at Ulaanbaatar Hotel on 3 and 5 December 2025, and had a very pleasant experience. Staff were warm and attentive from check-in through check-out, and my room was clean and comfortable, a good place to recover after long days out in the cold Mongolian winter. Breakfast was a highlight: hearty, flavourful, and a lovely introduction to local cuisine and Mongolian hospitality. I'd gladly come back and recommend the hotel to anyone visiting Mongolia.

The hotel stayed warm and cozy even with -40°C outside during my three winter nights there. The staff were exceptionally kind and attentive, and they handled any issues that came up quickly and professionally.

The Sichuan Restaurant inside the hotel left a bad impression of the whole place. Service was disorganized, staff gave us wrong information and brought food to the wrong table, and their behavior was unprofessional. We saw staff using their phones while serving, vaping behind the cashier counter, and even eating at a guest table in uniform. Very disappointing for a hotel claiming 5-star standards.

The bathroom area at the back was my favorite part :) It had a distinctive cave-like look, lovely lighting, and felt clean and calming. The main event hall was wonderful too, spacious and elegant.
