Casa Catrina

We really enjoyed being here. The room was clean and comfortable, breakfast was a highlight, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. The central tourist area location put lots of things within walking distance. Special thanks to Ana, who went out of her way to help us.

The Green room’s large balcony and spacious interior made for a comfortable stay. We also appreciated Elizabeth’s friendly manner, the excellent daily cleaning, and the courtyard restaurant, where cleaning often happened while we ate breakfast. A few things could be better: the coffee was weak, so I skipped it after the first day, and the room was too dark for me to read without my glasses. There was space for a comfortable couch to make lounging easier. I also don’t like room safes that aren’t attached and could be carried away. Still, Hotel Casa Catrina is a lovely place, and we’d happily return if we’re in the area.

The view was phenomenal, and the location couldn’t have been better for our time in Oaxaca. I’m picky, but this place was great all around, with a spacious room and a large jacuzzi.

The food tasted good, and the taco was especially nice, with great flavor and no grease running everywhere. I ordered it because it was .99 on taco Tuesday. They initially charged full price, but when I asked, they removed the charge entirely, which was more than necessary but appreciated. The service, though, was poor. We sat for over 15 minutes without anyone checking on us, even though it wasn’t busy and staff were standing around while we had no drinks or chips. My sweet tea tasted sour, as it can when it’s been left at room temperature too long. My wife’s Catrina Dip was watery, probably from the pico de gallo, and too soupy to stay on a chip. I asked for no rice and extra beans with my Chimichanga, but they brought out a second plate of rice and beans instead. They offered to correct it, which I appreciated, but by then we’d waited long enough and just wanted to eat and leave. Great food overall, but if you don’t mind waiting, you could give it a try.
