The Mirage Yks

Mirage Residence is a low-density condominium with around 100 units. Residents include both expats and locals. Security is tight, and the team is attentive. It’s convenient for Suria KLCC, Avenue K, and Kuala Lumpur city center, though Jalan Yap Kwan Seng brings some road noise. On the 6th floor there’s an indoor pool and a gym without air-conditioning. The male and female jacuzzis on the 25th-floor rooftop are out of service. Water pressure can also be a problem on higher floors.

The suites themselves were clean, spacious, bright, and very nice. The management experience was another story. After our 20-hour flight from San Francisco, my wife, our five children, and I waited in the car for more than three hours for the suite staff to arrive with the paperwork and keys. At that price, that was an unacceptable and awful start to our Malaysian vacation. They also put an RM600.00 hold on my credit card, about 150.00USD at the time. After the stay, staff checked the suite and said everything was fine and that the hold had supposedly been released. A couple of weeks later, I saw an RM600 charge instead. Management couldn’t explain it and said they’d look into it, but never followed up. Each time I contacted them again, the same thing happened. I had to file a claim with my bank, and the issue is still unresolved. The suite was nice, but it wasn’t worth the hassle or the feeling that they assumed I’d just go home to America and stop pursuing it. I was also shocked there was no lobby or proper hotel management. If we’d cancelled when we arrived, we would have been charged one day’s rent. I’d suggest choosing suites with a lobby, proper staffing, and reliable service. Happy travels, everyone.

The bathrooms still smelled in some rooms even after staff said they had been cleaned. They generally give you just one key, even when you’re there as a group. When problems come up, they don’t seem to act on them, and I still haven’t had a sincere response. After I complained, they blocked my contact. I felt they were more likely to shut me out than resolve anything. Check-in and checkout were also a mess. Guests have to contact them by phone for both, but replies often took more than an hour. My friend’s family and mine ran into the same trouble on different days. They said it was a system problem, though the issues eventually stopped happening. This was honestly one of the worst experiences. I’d strongly advise against staying here.

Just so you know, I live here. This is a residence, not a hotel. Some owners who don’t live here use their apartments as Airbnb or what they call a hotel. There are too many strangers and outsiders around, and I don’t feel I have privacy or that it’s safe. Don’t expect a receptionist, and it’s crazy that all these strangers use our facilities. We want neighbors, not strangers.
