Hotel O Pogimpaan Homestay

Having coffee each morning with the breathtaking Mount Kinabalu view was a real highlight. The rooms are simple but good value, and the owners were lovely and very hospitable. The place is close to everything, though you'll need to drive or get a grab. We had such a lovely stay, at a very reasonable price. We liked it so much we came back three days later.

We've been coming here to stay for Hari Raya for almost four years. It's a relaxing place, and very kid friendly. My niece and nephew stayed entertained for the whole two days and even forgot to play on their phones. I did notice some signs of neglect, with things falling apart, including the water fountain and flowers. I hope that's only temporary because I want to keep going there.

The room was dirty, even though the counter staff were nice. The sheets had a disgusting stain that looked like feces, the room smelled awful, and cockroaches were crawling on the bed. I can't see this as family friendly. The staircase is nearly 90 degrees and felt unsafe for elderly people. Even as an adult, I was scared climbing it. It felt more like hill climbing than staying at a homestay. If someone fell, they'd be in serious danger. I don't understand the high rating, which doesn't match my terrible experience. Maybe I was extremely unlucky, or the reviews don't reflect reality. Think carefully before booking. Google only allows a minimum of one star, though this place honestly deserves zero.

The owner was very friendly, the view was beautiful, and there were some cute cats around. There aren't too many stairs, so it seems convenient for elderly guests. Great value for money and a really nice experience.
