It’s very central and walkable to most places, with a main train line nearby and the trolley trains only a few minutes away. That’s about the only upside. The room was small, and the bathroom was so cramped that even as a slim 5'6" guy I had to use the toilet with the door open. The nightly price was already very high, and then there was a city or hotel tax of 30 euros for me that wasn’t clearly mentioned at booking. Staff seemed inattentive and unconcerned. Whenever I passed through the lobby, a guest seemed to be complaining, with little response from the staff. The fire alarm went off in our room and throughout the hotel. Since the room phone didn’t work, I had to run downstairs to find out what was happening. The receptionist looked at me as if I was crazy for asking, took his time turning off the alarm, then returned to his seat without checking that things were okay. Not the worst location, but I wouldn’t recommend it.

It was a terrible stay, and I wouldn’t return. The sheets had red marks and hair on them, the room was covered in dust, and there was no shower curtain. It was so cramped that the bathroom door wouldn’t open, and the window only opened halfway. There was repeated banging at all hours, day and night. The mattress already felt too thick and had a stain, so they tried to cover it with another thin mattress. The dusty bed decorations left dust all over the pillows and covers.

At night, the safe light was so bright it made sleeping difficult, and our room wasn’t cleaned during the stay. The bedding and towels were filthy and should have been thrown out. When I asked for replacements, the new towels seemed like they might have been used to clean the floor. The walls and ceiling were dirty too, with what looked like footprints on the ceiling. We paid £450 for two nights for a room about the size of a wardrobe. The one good thing was the location, right in the heart of the city. If you want a dirty room in the centre, stay here. Otherwise, give it a miss.

The location is handy for getting around central Amsterdam, but I wouldn’t recommend the hotel at all. It felt shabby, worn, and loud, with broken or missing facilities, and wasn’t worth the price. The lift broke while we were there, some lights didn’t work, the carpets were stained, and our room smelled of smoke despite signs saying smoking wasn’t allowed. I struggled to sleep because the hotel is on a main road with a tram line. The windows were so thin that the trams and people outside seemed to be in the room, and the noise continued all night. The beds were fine, and the bathroom was clean apart from a few spots of mold in the silicone. There were plenty of towels, but they were thin and scratchy. I wouldn’t return or recommend it.
