Hotel Heye 130

Bed bugs, bed bugs, bed bugs. I found only a few other reviews mentioning them, and those were from a long time ago, but I’d stay somewhere else if you can. The location is good and the staff are nice enough, but the rooms are small, the bathroom is tiny, and shower water gets all over the floor. It feels kind of expensive for what you get, especially with the bed bugs.

The staff were the highlight, friendly, kind and helpful from check-in through check-out. The room had a beautiful view that I kept looking out at, and they tidied it while we were away. It was very clean, too. The Nespresso machine was a treat, and they restocked it during my stay. I also appreciated the outlet converters by the bed since we’d only brought one. It’s a lively neighborhood with kind locals, close to excellent coffee and delicious Michelin-starred food. There’s a cafe space by the entrance with baked goods, games and places to sit. Everything was fantastic, good value, and I’d highly recommend it.

I’d happily book this place again. My room was small but just right for one or two people, with a clean, modern bathroom and a clean, fairly comfortable bed. The front desk staff were personable and took time to chat, which I really appreciated. I stayed through Airbnb and had a good enough experience to leave a Google review. I’d planned just two nights and three days in Amsterdam, then decided on my scheduled departure day to add two more. It was Easter weekend, so I was surprised to find an opening. The hotel is attached to a cafe, and I accidentally entered through that cafe even though reception has its own door. If it’s closed, there’s a small white buzzer beside it. Nearby are plenty of good restaurants, cafes and pubs. Vondelpark is close and lovely for a sunny afternoon, and Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh museum are not too far either.

My son needed the toilet, and we were thinking of buying a pastry, so I asked as we walked in if he could use it. The young woman said no, only customers could. How rude!
