Four Red Doors Apartments

The WiFi was among the best connections I had in Kathmandu, and the area has plenty of good restaurants, bars, and shops. The apartment is quiet too, set far enough from the main road that traffic noise doesn’t carry in. It’s cozy, with a well-stocked kitchen for making breakfast or dinner and plenty of clean water. The owner was very flexible about check-in. We booked late at night, and she called the next morning to arrange a time to hand over the key. There’s no A/C, which is why I’m giving four stars, but fans and screened windows kept things comfortable in mid-spring. She also has a heater for winter.

The internet was easily the best I’ve had in town. I enjoyed working at the kitchen table with coffee, and the big windows filled the clean, bright apartment with gorgeous light. Michael was helpful with everything we needed, and his care and attention to detail made my wife and me feel welcome. After many years of travelling, this is the closest I’ve found to a real home away from home. I’ll definitely stay here again when I return to Kathmandu.

There was no privacy at all, with such thin curtains that they didn’t even cover the window. The place felt very uncomfortable and unhygienic. It was super dirty, the bed wasn’t properly made, the floor hadn’t been mopped, and the living-room sofa had dirty covers.

The kids loved playing on the terrace. The loft was modern, really nice and very clean, and we enjoyed our stay.
