I had an easy check-in on April 17, 2026, thanks to the amazing front-office staff. The room was very clean and comfortable for my needs, and the hotel is conveniently close to restaurants, a market, bars, a club and a shopping center. On the morning of April 19, I asked housekeeping to clean my room and left a tip as a kind gesture. When I came back that evening and was getting ready to go out, I noticed my shaving gear was missing. Luckily, I could buy a replacement at the pharmacy in the same building. I told the front office, and they said the housekeeping manager, Sagar, would contact me. After several attempts to reach him, he finally called on April 20. I explained what happened and asked to be reimbursed for the gear I’d bought. He said he couldn’t refund me, but offered to buy the blades, and I agreed. On April 21, I followed up through the front office and was connected to Sagar. He said he couldn’t find the blades, refused to refund me, and called me a liar, suggesting I might not have had shaving gear in the first place. I don’t keep a beard and shave twice a day. That was a pathetic response from Sagar, and his handling of the matter ruined what the hotel otherwise had going for it: friendly staff, clean rooms and a good Thamel location. I might choose to stay here again, but I hope Sagar improves his customer service. I initially raised the matter with the front office just to inform them, but his response made it a matter of principle. I’d like upper management to contact me on WhatsApp using the number on my reservation. May 24, 2026: Management, I’m still waiting for a response.????!!! May 26, 2026: Can someone from management contact me about this? I’m escalating the concern to upper management for review. It seems you don’t care about customer requests.

The hotel has a trendy, modern feel that’s quite different from other places in Kathmandu. I stayed four nights between two treks, got into my very clean room early, and found it excellent value in a fantastic location. I’d definitely stay again. A few things were frustrating: there was no desk or table in my room, even though the Agoda pictures showed one. My keycard stopped working several times, so I kept having to ask reception to reactivate it. There was a lot of noise all night, every night, and staff called my room multiple times with questions, which seemed odd and unnecessary.

The food at Gaas Baas Co Super Club Restaurant was delicious, but dinner on May 12, 2026, was a frustrating experience. I was staying at Gaas Baas Co and visited the restaurant on the fourth floor at 10:15 PM. After ordering, we waited about 30 minutes. The attendant said the food was being prepared and would be served shortly, but another half hour went by with nothing. We asked a second attendant about the order, which had then been pending for over an hour. At first he ignored us, responding only after we called him again. He said it was nearly ready, then walked away. Soon after, the first attendant joined another staff member at the pickup area, where they talked and laughed while looking toward our table. The food finally arrived after about an hour and a half, and we enjoyed it. When we asked for the bill, it was marked as a walk-in guest even though I was staying at the hotel. We explained that and asked for the charge to go to my room, but the attendant surprisingly questioned whether I was actually a hotel guest. They corrected the bill and applied a discount for the delay. I appreciated the discount, but expected genuine care, an apology, or at least acknowledgment of the inconvenience. It felt as if we got less attention because staff assumed we were restaurant visitors rather than hotel guests. Every guest should be treated with the same professionalism and respect. The contrast was disappointing because I’d eaten at the same restaurant on my first day, when the service was excellent. I hope management takes this seriously and gives staff proper training, since service quality matters in how an establishment is represented and promoted.

The New Year’s Eve celebration was enjoyable, and the staff were courteous, well behaved and efficient throughout checkout. The hotel’s location made getting around very convenient. Our rooms were on the small side, but clean, comfortable and well maintained. A great experience, see you next time.

The most distressing part of my stay at Gaasbaas happened in the early hours, when a security staff member used a master key to unlock and open my room without authorization, notice or any communication from management. As a solo female traveller in Nepal for a friend’s wedding, I found this extremely alarming and completely unacceptable. Guests trust that their rooms are secure, private spaces. Allowing security personnel to enter without a clear reason or prior authorization is a serious breach of that trust, as well as of guest privacy and safety. The incident raises concerning questions about master key control, security procedures, and whether staff are properly trained or supervised. For solo travellers, especially women, this is deeply frightening. Hotels have a responsibility to make guests feel safe at all times, and this experience showed a clear failure in that responsibility. I strongly urge management to investigate seriously and put strict safeguards in place to prevent unauthorized room entry in future. Until those issues are addressed, potential guests should know about this serious safety concern.
