My week there had been really enjoyable until my boyfriend said reception was trying to charge us for an extra night that we'd already paid for. I went downstairs and spent about 15 minutes arguing my case, first with one man and then another. They wrote figures on the calendar, raised their voices, and gestured right in my face in a way that felt pretty aggressive. Eventually they said it was a “misunderstanding,” and things were sorted out. I've lived in Asia for 15 years total, so I know how to handle situations like this. Still, neither my boyfriend nor I will stay there again.

The owner and hotel staff are polite and really friendly. They respect guests and take care of everything. I like this hotel a lot, and when I come to Kathmandu next time, Silver jubilee will be my choice again.

The staff are the best part, really friendly, and the place has what you need. I stayed in the dorm to meet other travelers, but it felt more like having a private bedroom. The beds are comfortable, there are nightstands and lockers, balconies at the front and back, and a nice spot out front. The main street is noisy, though it sounds more distant here than in the city center. It would be much better with more people around. For the location, the price and quality are good. Just don't expect a five-star hotel or the standards you might be used to in developed countries. There's no elevator, and it's not wheelchair friendly.

The deluxe room was simple rather than fancy, but clean enough and good for the price. It had a ceiling fan, queen-sized bed, bedside table, desk, armchair, television, several power outlets for US, European, and UK plugs, and windows facing the street. The bathroom had a sink, western toilet, and hot and cold shower. There were a few roaches during monsoon season, but the staff dealt with them quickly by spraying the room with RAID while I was out. I stayed a couple of nights so I could explore Thamel's nightlife and attractions on my own, even though I had a Nepali friend to stay with in Kathmandu. It was worth it. Lots of shops, bars, and pubs are just a few minutes away, as are the beautiful Narayanhiti Palace Museum and Garden of Dreams, which you should absolutely visit. I came back from clubbing very late a couple of times without trouble. Just save the hotel's number in your phone in case the front doors are closed. The staff were friendly and accommodating, and they cooked breakfast for me.

Breakfast was delicious, the staff were friendly, and there's a pretty big locker. The hostel is in the city center near the market, with good, cheap restaurants nearby. It's a 5-8 minute walk from the main road. The bed was dusty, and I wasn't happy with the bathroom. It needs to be cleaner, and the drains were clogged so water sat there.
