Nepali Hive is family-run and has apartments, private rooms, and a dormitory. There are sitting and lounging spots on several levels where you can meet other travelers and locals. Pets are welcome.

A clean, comfortable option for solo travelers and backpackers, with a friendly host and very affordable accommodation. It’s also quite close to Thamel.

I paid 500 rupees for a private room with a shared bathroom and stayed around three weeks. It got no sun, but had plenty of soul. This is the cheapest backpacker hostel in Kathmandu, though it may not suit everyone: it’s not especially clean or customer-oriented. It’s a family business run by a lovely Nepali family with two very clever, sweet dogs. The rooftop is nice for catching some sun, and the full apartments are the best deal. If you’re in a shared dorm, choose the top bunk. The dogs have the bottom ones.

The host is friendly and the location is good, though the rooms could be in better condition.

The rooftop garden is a great place to relax in the sun, and from the terrace you get a beautiful view of the famous monkey temple hill top. Sunrises and sunsets are lovely, and the neighborhood has plenty of food places and delivery options. The paintings make the place feel welcoming, the staff are kind, and it’s a nice family-owned hotel with good food and tea available before 10. We stayed in the dormatories and two private rooms. Really loved the Hepali HIve!
