Ascot Lodge Motel

The rooms felt cold in August, and the bathroom ceiling had mould. There was a spill left on the kitchen floor, no fresh towels, unwashed dishes, and a carpet that hadn’t been vacuumed. I even woke up to a cockroach in my room. It’s a shame because this motel must have been quite good in its day, but it’s looking run down now and could use paint and general care. It’s often booked by tradies because of the cost. If my company booked it, I’d stay again, but I’d most likely choose somewhere else if I were looking for accommodation in Hamilton myself.

The couple running the motel were friendly and helpful, and everything was clean and in order, even though the place is dated. We stayed overnight for a local event, and it was easy to get to Hamilton city centre and local places to eat. Our son pointed out that Waterworld is in an excellent location from here, though we didn’t go there on this trip.

The unit was cold, damp, old and grimy, and I was sneezing all night under old woollen blankets, maybe even kapoc. The single-bed electric blankets were laid across double stretcher beds with buggered springs. There were cobwebs on the walls and ceiling, and the carpet and couch were mouldy and ripped, with huge tears in the couch. The oven handle was tied on with some dangling tape, string or plastic, I honestly couldn’t tell what it was. There was old milk in the fridge too. Even the hotel inspector ain’t seen nothing like this!

Cockroaches crawling on the walls, mouldy showers, broken toilets and curtains in a terrible state. The beds were awful too. On my first night I had to sweep dirt off mine, and the bed in a companion’s room had broken. There were bathroom heaters in the bedroom cupboards. 10/10 would not recommend.
