The Funny Lion El Nido

We had a lovely stay at Funny Lion, a real haven for our El Nido vacation. Several restaurants, bars, and souvenir shops are within walking distance, and the service felt friendly and personal. The hotel employees even knew us by name. The breakfast buffet was a highlight, with some local dishes alongside familiar comfort favorites. We also liked the reasonably priced, tasty food at Hunt, and the evening cookies were a sweet surprise. The nearby pool was an easy way to cool off in the heat. Arranging island hopping through their local contact David John Tours was simple: they picked us up in the morning and dropped us back at Funny Lion afterward. We'd absolutely stay again.

That private beach was a real bonus. The hotel takes you there and back, and it’s a much nicer option since the beach in El Nido town is a bit unclean. The breakfast buffet had plenty of choice and started at 6 am, which worked perfectly for my 7 am boat tour. Staff were friendly and around whenever I needed something, and the rooms were clean with nice lighting. I had a relaxing stay and liked being able to walk into town. The AC was a little loud, and I was disappointed there was no shampoo, conditioner, or body lotion. For a place that feels like a premium hotel, those would have helped complete the experience.

Papaya Beach was the best beach we visited, and the hotel made access easy. They also arranged our island hopping tours, which all went smoothly, and the location made it easy to get into town. We spent an amazing week at the Funny Lion celebrating our engagement. The staff were top notch and made the occasion feel special. Our stylish room came with a different freshly baked treat each day, and breakfast was delicious, with lots of options that changed daily. I’d highly recommend the Funny Lion if you’re coming to El Nido.

Papaya Beach was the highlight for us. It was so beautiful in person that photos really don’t do it justice. Our island tour guide Niño was friendly and accommodating, looked after us well, and helped us get some great photos along the way. My partner and I also loved the clean hotel, its lovely view and pool, and the convenient location. We had an amazing stay at Funny Lion and would happily recommend it to family and friends.
