Cheese & Wine Lapa

The breakfast on the terrace was incredibly tasty, with a view across the bay and bridge, and the staff were warm and friendly. I loved the hotel’s look too. It’s a former monastery library, and the old interior details make it a real pleasure to be in. We were absolutely delighted with our stay. If you’re tired of standard chain hotels, I’d definitely recommend visiting. ♥️👍

The reception staff were very nice, but I couldn’t get proper sleep during our two nights. There’s no soundproofing, so every footstep and door slam carries. People upstairs walked around at 2 a.m. for about an hour, and I could feel their heavy steps overhead. The bathroom is outside the room, which was really inconvenient.

We enjoyed staying at Cheese and Wine Lapa. The staff were helpful and friendly, the room was nice, and we loved having breakfast on the terrace floor each morning. The place feels cozy and historic, since it used to be a home for priests. The vibe is pretty relaxed and low maintenance, which suited us because we weren’t in the room much. The location isn’t especially close to the city center, though, so bear that in mind. There was quite a bit of mold on the bathroom ceiling and on the room walls. It didn’t spoil our stay, and we put it down to the age of the building, which has its own charm. The walls also seem thin. Some guests ignored quiet hours, and we could hear doors slamming and loud hallway and stairwell conversations when we wanted an early night. Once, the elevator alarm kept sounding for almost an hour, and there didn’t seem to be staff in the building at that time, so we were kept awake.

The receptionists were kind and friendly, and the breakfast was small but fine. Still, I didn’t enjoy my stay and wouldn’t recommend this hotel. We arrived at 10 a.m. to leave our bags and asked about an early check-in, but the room wasn’t ready. We returned at 3:45 p.m., and it was still not ready; we finally got in a little after 4. We’d booked a room with three beds, then were told we had to pay an extra 111 Euros because we were three people, despite only listing one person when booking. The room was very hot and had no AC. One tiny fan for all of us didn’t help, and we went to bed sweating every night. There was no hot water on two of our three nights, so we had cold showers. The furniture was cracked and damaged too.
