Hotel Mundial

A huge thank you to IRYNA at reception. We weren’t comfortable in the room we were first given, and she handled it kindly and professionally, upgrading us to a beautiful suite. That completely turned our stay around and made our time in Lisbon unforgettable. Such wonderful hospitality.

The hotel has a nice breakfast, an excellent service team and a wonderful rooftop bar, and it’s central for both the city and transport. But the rooms didn’t live up to the five-star billing, and there weren’t enough outlets for phones and other electronics. The area around the hotel also didn’t seem safe at night, with many homeless people nearby. We paid for two extra days before our group tour, and the first night in room 311 was awful. Street noise, the metro and people yelling outside kept us awake, even though we were three floors up. After we complained, they moved us to a quieter room the next day, though street noise was still easy to hear. Renovation work on the first floor meant drilling in 311 during the day, so napping was impossible. Other people in our group reported the same noise in their rooms. We still have one more night here at the end of our Portugal tour because Globus has paid for the group. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel if you need a good night’s sleep.

We compared hotels for hours on Google Maps, Booking and Agoda, and I’m glad we settled on Hotel Mundial. It was good value beside similar places, and the location made it easy to walk to most attractions and busy tourist streets. There’s also a large supermarket right next door. Our spacious family room had three beds; the third was a little small, but it was manageable and didn’t spoil the stay. The room was comfortable and the hotel was kid-friendly. Breakfast was good, though vegetarian choices were limited, and the complimentary pastel de nata was a nice surprise. There’s no gym or pool, but the rooftop bar has great views, very friendly service and is a lovely place to unwind in the evening. It felt like the right choice in almost every way.

The staff were very welcoming and gave us welcome drinks. The location is close to everything, yet nights were quiet. The rooms are a little dated, but I’d stay here again.
