Shabby Chic Bairro Alto

We booked three nights but left after just one. The entry stairs were extremely steep and narrow, with tiny, dangerously awkward steps for carrying luggage. The stairs leading to the bathroom and two other bedrooms were even worse, since there was no way to grip the handrail. It’s also a restricted area, so Uber and Bolt drivers can’t come in; you have to walk out to meet them. One star goes to the older gentleman who lives below the apartment. As we arrived, he made sure we understood the rules and that he could hear everything we did.

We had a lovely stay in this beautiful apartment. It’s in a good location, and the host was really friendly and helpful. I’d happily recommend it, and thank you for a good time.

The apartment was a nightmare. The listing says the host will welcome you and provide complimentary items to make you feel at home. In reality, nobody got in touch or waited to hand over the keys. Getting in, checking out, and finding the Wi-Fi were all treasure hunts involving codes and keys. I can read, so I found the codes under the router, but there wasn’t even a guidebook or a Lisbon map. There were no complimentary shower items that we could find, and the coffee maker didn’t work. We didn’t use the kitchen. The shower and toilet area was clean, but smelled bad. Pets are allowed, and if you don’t bring one, you may still have the cockroaches in the shower and kitchen area for company. Sleep was a real problem. It was incredibly noisy every night until at least 2:30 a.m., closer to 3:30 on Saturday, so we had to go buy earplugs. Then the upstairs neighbor’s kids started running at 7 a.m., or 6:49 on Sunday. The nights were very, very short. Given the lack of sleep, we would have appreciated finding earplugs there. I don’t recommend this apartment. Saying in the ad that guests should feel at home feels like a lie and shows a lack of respect.
