The room had a smell that needed attention. I was first put in room 17, where it smelled like a restroom, so they moved me to a better one. I also bought an air freshener at the supermarket, and that helped. I still love the place. The staff work really hard and are very helpful to customers, and my roommates were friendly. The name fits too, it takes only five steps to reach the city centre.

The staff were LOVELY and made me feel at ease. I arrived stressed as a young woman travelling solo, but they made it feel like home. The room was clean and nice, and breakfast was good. I enjoyed the stay a lot and will definitely come back to Singapore and stay at 5footway Inn again. Thank you, you are awesome!!!

For a backpacker, this place is fine: a nice bed, great ambience, and an awesome spot near the MRT. The bad smell people mention probably comes from other travellers after long days on the road, not the hostel itself. It's too bad when they're sleeping in your room, but that's hostel life. Learn to cope, or book a hotel instead.

We booked the small, basic private room for two. It was clean, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. There is great food and drink nearby, and Chinatown MRT is only a minute away. The shared showers and toilets in the Chinatown 1 building weren't great. The area is run down and not as clean as it should be. One toilet leaks onto the floor when flushed, and in most cubicles there's nowhere to put clothes or towels without them getting wet. Aside from that, it's a good place.

A handy spot for solo travellers or groups, in the heart of Chinatown and a short walk from Chinatown MRT and Chinatown complex, where you can buy cheap souvenirs. The rooms are nice, and breakfast is included. The toilets and bathrooms were clean. It's well suited to backpackers, though not so convenient if you're travelling with luggage. The front desk staff should be friendlier when checking people in.
