Rest Chinatown Hotel

I reported the room size discrepancy to the Singapore Tourism Board for review. The Standard Double Room was advertised as 12 sqm, but a recessed section of the room that corresponds to the emergency stairwell structure reduces the usable floor area. I measured the internal area with a scanning app and got approximately 10.3 sqm. I raised the issue with the hotel shortly after arriving, but they didn't address it. I then paid an additional SGD 150 to change rooms.

The rooms are the smallest in China town, though it's the cheapest option there. It feels very tight, with the bed almost wall to wall, and I felt boxed in. Still, it's very clean and right in China town. The dimsum restaurant may be on the 2nd floor. The hotel is upstairs in the building, not at ground level.

I was tempted to keep this place to myself, but it deserves the praise. It’s my favorite hotel in Singapore. The location is easy to get around from, close to the shopping area, with lots of durian and food nearby.

The bunk bed with a slide was a huge hit with my kids during our 24-hour layover. The room also felt larger than the small hotel rooms we’ve stayed in elsewhere in Singapore, and getting to Sentosa or the airport wasn’t too difficult. Rest is in Chinatown, which was lively even while places like Marina Bay were quiet during vacation time. We were really surprised by how good the stay was, and we’ll come back.
