I’m really into architecture, especially distinctive buildings with a timeless feel, and I love the way AMA combines green, red, blue, and black for a modern look that works with the classic Chinese architecture and furniture. The building itself is lovely, I liked the location, and the people were super nice. But as a solo retired woman, I’d asked for a quiet room for my four-night stay and ended up next to eight young men and right beside the shower. They talked loudly with the door open and walked around showing off their naked bodies outside my room. The walls don’t block sound well. I heard utensils dropping, people talking, a rooster crowing, birds singing, and showers running. It didn’t feel like a sanctuary for me, and a good night’s sleep would’ve been nice.

Yarowat and Chinatown are just a short walk away, and for the price I can’t stay anywhere else when I’m here. This was my third time at this hostel, and it’s been the same good experience each time. The shared rooms have always been quiet for me, and the beds are soft and comfortable. The place is very clean, with attentive, polite staff who speak English. There’s a small courtyard smoking area outside, and the architecture is beautiful. Thanks to the AMA staff for looking after this historic, lovely place. 10/10.

I was extremely dissatisfied with this hostel. I’ve stayed in many hostels, and this one had by far the worst service and attitude. The owner held a family gathering on the first floor from 6 pm the previous evening. They ate hot pot and shouted loudly, disturbing guests’ mood and rest. The designated smoking area was occupied by the owner and family while they ate there. We were required to check out by 11 am, and Chinese guests weren’t allowed to use the ground-floor beds. All Chinese guests were assigned upper bunks. I strongly suspect the hostel uses a “Chinese-friendly” label to mislead and discriminate against Chinese travelers. I speak English, unfortunately for them. Before 11 am, the owner repeatedly hurried me to leave immediately so the next guests could check in. I said that wasn’t my responsibility. Then two or three staff members rudely and violently pulled open my bed curtain while I was wearing only my underwear. I’m male, but that didn’t make this behavior acceptable. The owner told me to “get out of Thailand,” which left me extremely frightened and panicked. I was severely shocked and traumatized. Staff then stood under my bed, yelling and verbally abusing me, causing severe mental distress. I did eventually check out, but several staff members were still shouting insults as I left. There was no professionalism or basic service ethic. A hostel should be somewhere guests can rest, and the shared public areas matter too. As a Chinese guest, I absolutely wouldn’t recommend it. Chinese characters on a hostel sign don’t mean Chinese guests are treated fairly. When traveling abroad, no one will automatically stand up for you, so you have to stay alert and protect yourself. Good manners and professionalism don’t appear overnight. Publicly pulling back a guest’s bed curtain and exposing me in my underwear was deeply humiliating. We paid to stay and were treated disgracefully and insultingly. I consider that completely unacceptable, and believe my dignity and personal integrity were seriously violated. I’ll contact my lawyer to coordinate evidence collection and prepare to file a lawsuit against the hostel in a Thai court. This hostel is playing with fire.

The coffee was delicious, and the person working there was so welcoming and helpful. A lovely hotel in a peaceful part of Bangkok.

After three trips to Bangkok, this is my favorite place to stay. The hotel is beautiful, the bathrooms are clean, and the beds are comfortable with firm mattresses and good bedding. I can't imagine choosing somewhere else on a future visit.
