Westlake Resort Hotel

It doesn't really feel like a resort, and I wouldn't recommend it. Requiring swim caps at the spa seems outdated and traditional, especially since that's not even necessary abroad. The surfing trunks are made from swimwear material rather than beach shorts, and the equipment is just too old.

The room was damp and musty, and the bed smelled that way too. It was on the second floor, right above the restaurant exhaust. Opening the window only let in cooking fumes, so I had to shut it and set the air conditioning to 20 degrees Celsius. At night it was quiet, but the air conditioner was very loud. I couldn't turn it off because I was trying to get rid of the musty smell. The winter comforter was too thin to keep us warm. Around midnight, water started dripping above the bed, then I could hear running water every half hour. I couldn't sleep. I called the front desk and was told to watch it a little longer, and that they'd move us if we couldn't sleep. I didn't push for a room change right away, but by 2 AM it was still unsettling. My child was asleep, so we squeezed into one bed because the other smelled musty, and tossed and turned until dawn. That night I had an allergic reaction and kept coughing. I lost all interest in sightseeing and just wanted to go home and see a doctor. Giving guests a room like this is terrible 👎. The facilities are old and the quality is so poor that I'll never return.

The park is huge, but wandering near the restaurant while waiting for meals wasn't much fun. There wasn't much to see, and the walk to the afternoon tea restaurant felt long and boring. In the four-person cabin room, there were only two outlets by the beds, and one was taken by a bedside lamp. That left just one outlet for charging phones, and it was even less workable if we wanted to plug in the heater. The heater itself was dusty and smelled strongly of metal when turned on, so we couldn't use it. We were also told to keep it away from blankets and clothes, but all the outlets were near the bed, so it ended up very close anyway. The cabin was dusty all over when we checked in.

We stayed on the top floor, but kept hearing marbles, banging, and even piano music from upstairs. I've always been a little sensitive to things in hotels, and there have been paranormal events. The room was very dark, with only a desk lamp, and even at 28 degrees Celsius the air conditioning felt very cold. The soundproofing was awful, with noise from the first floor carrying up to the third. The water temperature kept swinging between hot and cold.
