After a 13-hour ferry journey from Matsu islands, I arrived at night to find the hostel dark and the door locked. I had no internet, cash, or sense of direction. Apparently reception closes in the evening, and checking in required internet. They offered WiFi, but it didn’t work. Luckily, a girl staying there who was picking up food gave me a hotspot. I found out my reservation had been canceled because they said my card didn’t work, even though it had worked at a dozen other hotels and hostels during the trip. When I tried to book again, a dorm bed on Wednesday night had jumped from 9 to 20 euros. Maybe that’s their scam, canceling and then charging more to a tired traveler who’s stuck there. I used the hotspot to book another hostel, where my card worked and reception was staffed at night. This place wasted my time and energy, stressed me out, and canceled a valid reservation. I hope they go out of business. They seem malicious, unreliable, untrustworthy, and greedy. Don’t support this place.

It’s a gamble whether you’ll have a good stay here. The location is convenient, but rooms beside the main road get traffic noise even after midnight. The windows don’t seem soundproof at all, and it feels like cars are passing right by your bunk. There’s no lift, which didn’t bother me, but the stairs have no handrails and could be dangerous. Staffed hours are very short, probably matching the ground-floor cafe hours. There’s also a strange rule against wearing your own shoes in some rooms, while apparently other rooms allow them. What’s the reasoning?

A relaxed, comfy place in a quiet neighborhood, with a five-minute walk to Yuanshan MRT. The staff were friendly, and the receptionist at the café gave me a warm welcome. My room was clean and cozy, though a little hot when I arrived, so ventilation could be better. Bathrooms had shampoo and body wash, but towels cost extra to rent. There’s no elevator, something to keep in mind with big luggage, and the kitchen only has a microwave. I liked the laid-back feel and found it a great base for exploring Taipei.

We came back for another two-week stay at Corner Hostel, and it was as lovely as ever. Cosy, comfortable, and welcoming. Thank you, Ms. Huang and Ms. Peixuan. Try the rooms as well as the tea and coffee selection, then sit and watch the world go by over a cup. That's life! On our May 2025 visit, the place was beautiful as always, with warm hospitality. Thank you, Ms. Huang and Ms. Peixuan. In November 2024, service was exceptionally good, and it was still just as awesome as our first visit in May. Ms. Huang & friends. Earlier, on 25 May 2024, we tried the African rooibos tea & the banana cake. Both were simply awesome, if a little pricey at NT$100 each. No complaints, quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten. Staff was friendly. (Ms. Huang). Our first visit was on a hot, humid day. The ice tea was absolutely delicious, and the place felt cozy and warm, like home. We planned to stay for a couple of days in November 2024.

The dorm smelled rancid when I first arrived, but the odor had completely gone after a night or two, so I think it was a people issue. I saw a few people lock themselves out after leaving their keys inside. Switching to codes might be more practical. The interior and common areas were nice, and I had a good stay. The dorm boxes were pretty big, and there was a large secure compartment.
