The staff were genuinely welcoming, and the room looked nice, but the building's security worries affected our stay a lot. Our room was beside the rear car park, where a door gives direct access to the hotel. It opens automatically in the daytime; at night, pressing the reception intercom lets someone in without any identity check. The room also had a door straight to the car park, secured only by two small bolts and no internal lock. The main door locked by itself but had no inside lock, so anyone with a key could enter, and its blurred peephole couldn't be used. The shower blocked within minutes. We also didn't think the food was worth what we paid, though the staff member serving was very pleasant. The hotel looks and feels nice, but we found the safety and security lacking. Three stars feels fair.

We took a five-day break for my partner's 60th birthday, and the hotel made it a wonderful stay. The staff were lovely and made us feel welcome. Our room was perfect and cleaned when we wanted, while breakfast was cooked to order and dinner was done to perfection. The wait staff were better than at many restaurants. It's a well-kept historic building, and the location works well, with a bus every 15 minutes and just three stops into town. I've stayed in hundreds of hotels and tend to avoid the chrome-and-glass gin-palace style, using budget places for a single night. For a visit to Bath, this is the best hotel to stay in.

We skipped dinner at the hotel because Bath has so many places to eat, and getting back later by bus was easy. There's a stop on Milsom Street with buses every 15 minutes, handy after the 15-20 minute walk down the fairly steep hill into town. We did use the little bar for a couple of nightcaps, and the reception and bar staff were pleasant and helpful. Our room was warm, spacious and clean, with two wardrobes, an iron and board, and a hairdryer. There were towels and toiletries in the bathroom, plus tea, coffee, water and good biscuits in the room. I loved Bath and would happily return.

The room was clean and tidy, and the staff were so nice and helpful. The butter chicken was seriously the best I've had, and the cocktails were good too. I parked elsewhere because the website said spaces were first come, first served. When I arrived there were some free, so I wish I'd taken a chance. I'd recommend staying here.

The staff were friendly and professional, and really were the best part of our stay. Everything else felt far below what we expected for almost £300 a night. Our room and bathroom were cold, and the plug-in radiators we were given didn't heat the room properly. The bathroom was in poor condition and uncomfortable to use. We'd asked for a garden view but got a view of a dirty wall, and the bed sheets had holes. There was only tap water, no still water, and breakfast had very few options and wasn't worth the extra cost. We were also charged for parking, although the hotel advertised on-site parking as included, which felt misleading. The accommodation and amenities didn't offer value for money. We left disappointed and wouldn't stay again without significant improvements.
