Holiday Inn Express Dunfermline

The room was decent, and breakfast had a good range. We also had dinner there, and everyone we met was nice. We arrived late and stressed, and the team offered us complimentary hot chocolate. Apparently that’s a thing there! The cook was especially friendly, and the first woman who welcomed us was lovely too. Sorry I didn’t get their names. Other guests kept going in and out of rooms, which was our only gripe. We stayed just before Christmas, so maybe that’s not typical. We didn’t complain, though two other guests apparently did, and staff came to deal with it.

The room lighting is subtle and points upward, so it can feel too dark if you’re trying to use the room as an office. There are plenty of sockets for 240-volt appliances, plus USB outlets. Rooms are modern and very clean, and hotel members can arrange a late checkout at 14:00. The location worked well for my dockyard job, with a couple of places to eat within a ten-minute walk. Hotel food was reasonably priced and didn’t take too long, and the extensive buffet breakfast was very nice, with a full cooked English breakfast and a range of cold options.

For work, it was easy to get to Edinburgh from here, and the hotel was easy to access. There’s plenty of nearby choice for food and shopping. The reception and bar staff were friendly and welcoming. The room was standard HIE: clean, functional and well maintained, with the usual amenities. The bed was really comfortable, I slept like a log, and the Wi-Fi was reliable.

Public transport and taxis are close by. There’s no Uber locally, though you can get one from Edinburgh. The front desk staff were helpful and friendly. The clean little hotel is very close to Dunferline abbey and the burial place of Robert the Bruce. My room had a sofa, a desk and table, a TV, plus amenities including an iron and hair dryer. Coffee, tea and hot chocolate were complimentary and available around the clock near reception.
