The rooms were clean and spacious. They’re a little dated, but that suits the charm of this authentic Scottish guest house. Jane was so pleasant and welcoming when we arrived, and she and the other waitresses were very hospitable at breakfast. There was lots to choose from in the morning, including a hot breakfast, cereal, fruit, different breads and plenty of condiments. The bus into the city stops just outside, which was very handy since driving in would mean paying the LEZ charge. We had a lovely stay.

We felt right at home at the Ben Doran Guesthouse. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, with a lovely family style Christmas spirit, and the staff were exceptionally friendly and attentive. Breakfast was tasty and a great start to the day. We had a very positive stay and would happily come back. Highly recommended!

Clean, really big rooms, a lovely property and good off road parking. The guest house is also close to the city centre, with regular buses into town. The breakfast had loads of choice and was amazing. The staff looked after us so well on our first visit to Edinburgh. Definitely would stay at this amazing hotel again in future. Thank you.

The location was convenient, with plenty of buses and the centre not far away. Our basement room was large, but its big glass door didn’t feel private. The roller blinds still left gaps. We could hear traffic and everything from the breakfast room above, so sleeping in wasn’t possible. The WiFi and phone signal were very unstable. The room could use an update. The bed was uncomfortable, made from two singles pushed together, and the shower head was too heavy for its bracket, so it kept getting in your face.

The location was excellent, the rooms comfortable and the bathrooms very clean. Overall, very good, except breakfast doesn’t start until 8am. With our travel and tours, we only managed breakfast once in three mornings. It felt like a deliberate way to cut costs, and we really didn’t appreciate having to buy breakfast elsewhere after paying for it here. Not a good look. Breakfast should run from 6 to 9, or there should be a continental option on each floor for people leaving early.
