Kelvingrove gallery couldn’t be more convenient to get to, and there are some nice restaurants and bars nearby, though the area felt a little sleepy. We stayed for three nights and checked out on Christmas Eve. The guest house wasn’t quite what we expected, but it had charm, and I can see why it’s called a guest house rather than a hotel. There was lovely furniture throughout and comfortable amenities, though nothing spectacular. Breakfast was a very nice touch and we were really happy with what was offered. The price seemed fair for what we got.

The area is great, and the cleanliness was exceptional. We had an enjoyable stay and I’d definitely come back. The room was cosy, quiet and comfortable. The Alamo looked more luxurious online than it felt in person, and we were a bit disappointed at first by the small room. We’d booked the most affordable option because the prices are high, and the brochure and website called it “intimate.” We knew when booking that the bathroom was outside the room and didn’t mind much. They provided lovely robes, and the bathroom itself was nice, with a deep bath. The woman who welcomed us was super friendly, though her socks made the check-in feel a little unprofessional and almost hostel-like. Breakfast was disappointing: it arrived cold and undercooked after an hour, and the staff seemed flustered and unprepared. We were the only ones in the breakfast room, so cooking two breakfasts shouldn’t have been such an undertaking. We left hungry and disappointed. The server apologised and offered complimentary cream tea, which we appreciated. I still recommend the guest house, since the breakfast may have been a kitchen issue and we could just have been unlucky.

We had a free night with bed and breakfast after winning an Instagram competition, and chose the Arran Suite. It was AMAZING. Everything in the room was perfect, from the bed to the shower and bath. The staff were so kind and hospitable. Clean, affordable, relaxing, and just good vibes all round. If you need somewhere to stay in Glasgow, this place comes highly recommended. Thanks again, we’ll be back!

The staff were friendly, the beds were comfortable enough for us to sleep well, and even from the basement we could see some trees. The bathroom was pleasantly warm, and the à la carte breakfast was tasty. Still, for about £250 per night, the Alamo Guest House felt expensive for what we got. The house and its location have potential, but we were given a basement room when no “park view” had been advertised. All the rooms are carpeted, which is a matter of taste. There was no bathrobe, which would have helped with the shared bathroom, and the toilet needed a long, hard press to flush properly. You have to ring to get in, and there are only stairs to both the entrance and the rooms. Breakfast must be reserved for a fixed time, which felt restrictive. We had a 24-hour flight delay and gave proof of the cancellation, but the booking was non-refundable and no goodwill gesture was offered, such as refunding the missed breakfasts. Coffee at breakfast was just French press and not tasty. The young woman at check-in and check-out was very friendly, as was the breakfast staff.

The Alamo gave my family such kind treatment from arrival right through checkout. I was blown away by the service and accommodations. Our rooms were spacious and decorated to match the building’s architectural style, and the cooked-to-order breakfast included with the stay was a delicious way to begin each day. It’s just outside downtown Glasgow, so it felt like a quiet retreat while visiting the city.
