The air conditioning was already an issue when we checked in, and staff knew about it. Reviews suggest it’s been going on for a while, so I think guests should be told when booking or offered another arrangement. Our room was hard to keep at a comfortable temperature, and the lumpy pillows didn’t help. We’d stayed at Hard Days Night Hotel twice before, in 2010 and 2019, and standards have clearly slipped. From 14 to 15 February 2026, our room faced Matthew Street. Noise from the nearby venues went on until about 4am, then rowdy people stayed loud for hours. Earplugs made no difference, and we couldn’t sleep. A hotel should give you a decent night’s rest. There’s an 11pm noise curfew in Liverpool, and the Matthew Street venues seem to be ignoring it. I also think the hotel should be working with the council to address this for guests. The worst part was that the hotel simply wouldn’t engage when I tried to discuss what happened. It’s disappointing, but I won’t be back.

Jamie’s helpful tips for exploring Liverpool and how attentive he was really made the experience better. The breakfasts were another highlight, with plenty of tasty choices and a lovely start to the day. Our beds were incredibly comfortable too. We had a great stay from beginning to end.

Breakfast was a mess, with used tea bags overflowing beside the coffee machine, things not being replenished, and no teaspoons. Maybe these sound like small details, but I don’t expect that at a four-star hotel. I’m from Liverpool and have stayed here a few times over the years. Since our last visit, the maintenance has gone downhill badly. The panel for the key card was coming away from the wall, and the windows wouldn’t shut properly, so the room was draughty and noisy with no soundproofing. It’s such a shame to see this iconic hotel going down the drain.

After a long drive on the M, I felt completely relaxed here. I slept comfortably and was out like a light. The hotel’s near the Cavern Club, and it’s connected to a restaurant with excellent fish and chips as well as pricier dishes. The elegant atmosphere, with Beatles music playing, was lovely. I really loved this hotel.

What we’ll remember most is the staff. Every person we dealt with was outstanding, warm and professional, and nothing felt like too much trouble. Both of the issues we raised were sorted straight away. Their attitude made the stay so much better, and that kind of service is hard to put a price on. We stayed for our anniversary on 9-10 January 2026, having visited a few years earlier. The refreshed look is a big improvement, and we enjoyed reading the hotel history around reception, the bar and restaurant. The shared areas and our spacious, well equipped room were clean and comfortable. If you’re driving, book parking through the hotel in advance. Without a booking, they can’t apply the discounted rate. Booking.com didn’t mention this when we checked, so we got caught out. At the time of writing, one night’s parking cost £25 without a discount. The reception team dealt with our concern when we arrived, and we were happy with the outcome. We ate at North Sixty4. My hake was delicious and cooked perfectly, though I was disappointed there was no Samphire as listed on the menu. It didn’t spoil the dish. My husband’s Penny Lane fish and chips was less successful. He found the frozen chips disappointing, and the fish had a rubbery edge or spine. When staff asked about the meal, we mentioned the fish. They showed real concern and handled it brilliantly. The last thing we heard was the chef saying, “I'm going to check every piece of fish”. The food was very reasonably priced. Breakfast was a letdown. The cooked buffet had started only ten minutes before we arrived, but everything seemed to have been sitting under heat lamps for ages. The fried and scrambled eggs were pre-made and rubbery, and the serving spoons and tongs were very hot to touch. For a four-star hotel, I’d expect eggs cooked to order. The kitchen team could rethink how they manage breakfast and find a safer place for the utensils.
