The good parts were the lovely staff, decent breakfast, great location, and a room bigger than I expected. For West End shows, most theatres are a 15-20 minute walk away, with plenty of buses and a tube station nearby. The hotel itself is rundown and doesn’t feel like a 4-star place. The bathroom seemed recently renovated, but the rest badly needs refurbishment. The old, stained carpet put me off walking barefoot, and we were given visibly stained bedding and towels several times. The pillows are awful. Sound carries a lot, and one night a shower in another room sounded like someone drilling into the wall. There were no outlets near the beds. Our top-floor room stayed incredibly warm, and we ran the AC every night. I can’t imagine how hot it gets in summer. We stayed five nights. I was surprised by the glowing Google reviews, then saw several reviews saying the place had been review farming, and honestly, it made sense. I wouldn’t stay again. There are probably better kept hotels nearby.

The breakfast was very generous, and the staff were smiling and helpful. It’s a nice, cosy hotel in a Victorian-style building, right in the heart of the tourist area. The British Museum is very close, with bus stops and metro stations nearby.

Our cancellation was requested nearly a month before the booking because of a medical issue, but the hotel still refused any refund. I understand there are booking terms, though I wish they’d shown some flexibility in these circumstances. There are nearby hotels with more reasonable policies.

What stood out was how much character the Staunton Hotel has as a London townhouse. I chose it for a work trip to a Jefferies conference because I prefer somewhere individual to the usual chain hotels, and I’d happily seek it out again. The location is central for Holborn and the British Museum, with Kings Cross and The Strand a short walk away, yet the area feels quiet and residential. There are good pubs and plenty of independent places to eat nearby. My room was spotless, warm and had a very comfortable bed. The welcome was friendly, the staff were helpful, and breakfast was a fabulous full English. It ticked all the boxes for me. Thanks to everyone there.

The breakfast was amazing, and the hotel has a warm, welcoming feel and a great location. My room was clean, comfortable, and had everything I needed. The staff were so friendly and attentive, with top-notch service throughout. I had a fantastic stay.
