The host was friendly and easy to talk to, and I never had to wait for the shared bathroom or hold anyone else up. Pulpit Hill is nearby and has great views over Oban and beyond, definitely worth visiting. The walk up to the property is steep, though there are buses and taxis if hills aren't for you. My single room felt comfortable and homely during my winter 2022 stay, but got a little chilly. The thick duvet helped. I made the mistake of leaving the heating on all day, which causes mould and costs the host money in electricity. At the time, it was £25 for a February 2022 night. Rates now seem to be £40-65 depending on season, still good value compared with many hotels. I paid £45 for the cheapest hotel in early December 2025. Breakfast used to be included during my £25 stay, but it's no longer served, and I hoped that would bring the price down a little. I understand that higher electricity, gas, tax and food costs in the area have affected places like Don Muir, so I don't blame them for cutting back. I last stayed a few years ago, but it still looks like good value and beats most hotels.

Don Muir is in a lovely, quiet spot up the hill, close enough to reach everything Oban has to offer. We had a large room with a comfortable bed and everything we needed for our three-night stay. The welcome was warm. Thanks for a lovely stay, Russell and Lee.

Carolyn made me feel safe as a woman travelling alone, welcomed me warmly and suggested good places to visit. The bedroom was just right, and although I was nervous about sharing a bathroom, it wasn't a problem. I also loved the small breakfast selection and range of refreshments. The venue is up a gradual slope, about a ten-minute walk from the town centre, with beautiful harbour views on the way. Pulpit Hill viewpoint is only a couple of minutes away. I'll definitely return to Oban.

The room was nicely decorated, and I liked the colour scheme. It had a normal-sized kettle and a comfortable bed. The breakfast basket included cereal, Iron Bru and crisps, with milk, orange juice and yogurt in the fridge. There was no hot water at the tap, and I couldn't get the sink plug to rise. Some spots in the room and bathroom could have been cleaner. Town is a 10-15 minute walk away. There's no on-site parking, but parking at Pulpits Hill is a short stroll away. I'd stay again and book direct for a good price.

The host was welcoming and nice, and the guesthouse was quiet. My room was clean and cozy. I'd stay here again on a future visit to Oban.
