The booking had an issue, and I was told the night before to ask for a VAT receipt in the morning so I could claim back the cost that my workplace was supposed to have prepaid. When I went to reception, nobody was there. I waited several minutes, but no one came. The woman I’d spoken with the previous evening had been friendly and helpful. I’d paid for breakfast too, served in the pub at the bottom of the car park, but my name wasn’t on the list. Luckily, a staff member let me in. The room was extremely basic: no sockets by the bed, no iron or ironing board, and no phone to call for one. There wasn’t even a cup in the bathroom for a toothbrush. A sign said to ask reception for a rubber bath mat, which would mean getting dressed and going downstairs to request it. A disappointing stay, especially for £104 per night.

Sarah made a difficult stay much more pleasant, and I can’t thank her enough. She was an angel. She even found time during a long shift to iron some of the men’s shirts and helped me out too. We had eight rooms for three nights while attending a funeral. She arranged for us to stay in the same part of the hotel, so it was easy to find family, and got colouring packs for the children. The adults had biscuits, which went down well with a cup of tea when we all got back.

There were lots of free parking spaces, and breakfast at the neighbouring Red Lion was excellent. We had a comfortable bed, and the room was clean and well supplied with pillows, towels, tea, coffee and milk. The kettle seemed fairly new and everything worked as it should. The staff were friendly, and the Premier Inn was ideally placed for visiting both Southsea and Portsmouth. We spent two nights here and will definitely return. I’d happily recommend it. Well done, Premier Inn 👏

The room was clean and a lovely size, and the little heart chocolates left for us were such a cute touch. The bed was so comfortable that we went home and ordered a Premier Inn mattress! Sarah checked us in and was there when we checked out too. She was so helpful and made the place feel like home. We stayed for Valentine’s weekend and can’t wait for another excuse to visit Portsmouth and stay at Horndean.
