St George's Guesthouse

A good-value hotel with a welcoming, charming feel. There’s a restaurant and bar, though I haven’t eaten in the restaurant because I prefer walking into town. The bar is friendly and usually has people in.

We chose this charming seafront hotel for my nephew’s wedding, and the location suited us perfectly. Our Seaview room had some of the most comfortable beds, and we enjoyed the meals from the restaurant. The bar overlooking the sea was a lovely spot to unwind. The staff were the best part. The two gentlemen and Jayne at reception, along with Jen and Maria, all made a real effort to help us and did it with a smile. We’d highly recommend a stay here. Thanks!

Getting to our room was very difficult: we were on the fourth floor, up four flights of stairs, and we’re all in our 70s. We hadn’t realized there was no lift. Room 11 was very hot and stuffy, with some kind of generator running. The food and menu were good, the bar staff were very friendly, and the location was handy for local transport. We were there for a four-night break, and the staff were friendly throughout.

The bed was good, and we had a partial sea view from Room 25, where my spouse and I stayed for seven nights. The beer garden below could get a bit troublesome. Our bathroom had some issues, though the staff were very good. Meals were also good, despite a wandering fly and no insectocutor, and main courses averaged about £16pp. Laundry was listed at £9.00, £9.50, or £10.00 per bag, depending on the source. The complimentary coffee was Nescafe, which we’ve avoided for decades because of their third-world policy. At least the teabags were Fairtrade.
