The Queens Hotel & Victoria Cloisters Apartments

Breakfast was plentiful and nicely cooked, and the staff were warm and helpful. We had a spacious room with a river view and really enjoyed our two nights. The location was lovely too: cross the bridge and you're in York city after about a two-minute walk. We'd happily return and recommend it.

The hotel was warm and clean, served very good food, and sits in an ideal spot for tourists. The staff were especially friendly and helpful throughout.

The location is brilliant, breakfast was generous and lovely, and the staff were friendly. But the hotel feels very tired and the rooms were freezing. The radiators didn't work, and I heard other guests complaining about the same thing. The quilts were paper thin. I'd come back for one night, but no longer, and only if you can cope with the cold.

The location is the one real plus, and getting around by Uber is easy and very cheap. Everything else was a mess. There was just one power outlet, at the desk, with none by the bed. The hotel has a restaurant, but apparently you need to book ahead if you want food, even soup. We arrived at 4pm without anyone mentioning that, napped, then came down at 7pm and were asked if we'd booked. We hadn't, so we were told there was no food. The attitude and customer service were terrible. The bed was also misrepresented. Booking.com lists it as an extra large double and gives a width of 181-210cm, but it was 150cm, which isn't a king size. That's not Booking.com's fault if the hotel lies about its rooms. I had the exact same bed-size issue at Holiday Inn Kensington, where a Standard King Room had a queen bed. I can understand confusion over the name, but calling a 150cm bed 181cm is fraud.
