The room was dirty, and the toilet lid was broken. I nearly slid off before I noticed. Outside, people wandered around the parking lot and played loud music by my window all night, and I didn’t feel comfortable leaving my car there. The place was conveniently near my destination, but dealing with staff through a plexiglass window with a small opening was a first for me, and probably should’ve been a clue. If this is America’s best, we’re all doomed.

The bathroom was foul, with a broken toilet and a disgusting tub, and there wasn’t even a refrigerator. I paid $80 plus tax, but the room hadn’t been cleaned: the bed was unmade and trash was everywhere. There were roaches throughout, and likely bed bugs, though I didn’t sit down or check. The woman also made me pay another $10 because she said the previous guest owed it, after I spoke with him before renting the room. This was the nastiest motel I’ve rented. Don’t waste your money. This place should be condemned.

The first room we saw was infested with roaches. At the desk, the woman blamed housekeeping and offered us another room. That one had lights that didn’t work, bedbugs around the microwave, roach remains behind the shelves, and mysterious stains all over the furniture. We asked for a refund, but she again blamed housekeeping and said she couldn’t give us the full amount because both rooms needed cleaning. She even said the roaches weren’t her problem. We called the health department because the place was gross. The pool was half full of green pond scum, and they seemed confused about our Travelocity reservation. We were charged more than the online price we’d reserved. I’ve stayed in places half as expensive that were twice as nice.

The price is cheap, and now I see why. The beds were nasty, like they’d just been made without changing the sheets, the floors hadn’t been vacuumed, and the supposedly clean washcloths were wet. The sink and filthy shower had hair all over them. The AC and heater didn’t work, and the TV had sound but no picture. The phone was dead, the shower kept running, and there’s no ice machine. We booked a nonsmoking room, but the beds had burns, the room smelled of smoke, and ashes were scattered on the floor. Cops drive around the parking lot all night, and the area didn’t feel very safe. It should cost even less.

You can tell they’re making an effort to turn the place around. As contractors, we know how hard and expensive it is just to maintain a motel in this economy. Our room was clean and comfortable, and we checked for bed bugs as we always do but saw no sign of them. Keep up the good work.
