On the second day of my two-night stay, I found a condom on the nightstand. I assume a housekeeper found it while cleaning and thought it was mine, but it must have been left by a previous guest, which raises questions about how clean the property is. I called the front desk and nothing was done. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s still there. I’ve stayed here many times because my client’s headquarters are nearby, and I’ve recommended the hotel to my team, colleagues, and executives. This experience makes it my last time. The other issue began at check-in, when Navan, the company we book through, had listed a different room than the hotel was willing to provide, a $400 room instead of a $1,000 one. Navan was responsible for the mistake, not Virgin. But the night manager, a younger woman, handled it in a way I found unacceptable. She showed little care and acted as if she had power she didn’t have, which isn’t appropriate for someone facing customers.

The hotel has a beautiful property, a great atmosphere, and nice rooms. It feels upscale, and there’s plenty to like. Still, my stay was overshadowed by a billing problem and poor follow-up. At check-in, the associate said my debit card transaction hadn’t gone through, so I tried it again. It was declined, and I used my credit card instead. Later I found out the first debit charge had actually posted to my bank account, and my credit card was charged for the same stay too. I was charged twice. I understand mistakes happen, but I’ve sent several emails and haven’t gotten a response or resolution. Parking isn’t ideal, and the location is less convenient than other Dallas options, especially for this price. For a hotel at this level, I expected better customer service and follow-up when a problem like this comes up. I hope management contacts me and resolves it promptly.

The drinks at Commons Club were great, but the food was inedible. My husband ordered the Cuban Hash, which looked like cat food or some weird meat and tasted bad. The restaurant was dirty too, with stains and hair on a chair, food on the floor, and marks on the gold pipes above the bar that looked like handprints. I liked the hotel’s vibe, decor, and finishes, but the room had a lot of things that gave me the ick: a big stain and black mark on the giant lamp, scratches on the coffee table, orange stains, maybe bleach, on the purple vanity chair, and white calcium buildup on the red shower head. The bathroom light and window shade weren’t working, but the front desk fixed both as soon as we reported them. Even so, the place felt very unclean. With more attention to detail and cleanliness, this hotel could be near the top of our list. For the price, it was disappointing.

It’s easy to find near the airport and works well for a work trip to Dallas. The restaurant downstairs has good steak and eggs, and there’s a nice coffee shop. The one downside is that the coffee shop doesn’t open until 7:00. There’s a cafe around the corner that opens at 6:30, but I highly recommend going to
